School Year 2009 - 2010

President
Darryl Robinson
American Embassy - Amman / Dept. of Defense

Comments: "I see my participation on the school board as a rewarding opportunity to invest in the future education of my child, and those of others, in ways not afforded to many. I welcome the challenge of being engaged on a strategic level in the planning, oversight, and execution of delivering a first-class education to such a diverse and multicultural school body."

Vice President
Azad Keval

Comments: "I believe in leading by an example! As parents, administrators, teachers, and students our motto should be 'deeds not words' as we begin to achieve a common vision for ACS. I have been a successful US Air Force Officer for 29 years with extensive experience in leading military organizations and I look forward to using this experience while serving you as a member of the ACS board."

Treasurer
Hossam El-Shaffei
United Nations Relief / Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East

Comments: "My educational and professional background have instilled in me the value of credibility gained through transparency and accountability. Therefore, I strongly believe that the goals and objective of the Board as the Governance mechanism of the school should ensure that those core values are reflected in all the Board and school activities."

Secretary
Mark Lewis
American Embassy - Amman / United States Army

Comments: "As a parent with a child in the American Community School, I am keenly interested in and concerned with the success and advancement of ACS. As an Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army I bring 22 years of experience in leadership, teamwork, financial and administrative management, policy development and implementation, advising senior military and government officials, and developing and mentoring young men and women from all walks of life toward success. I feel I can bring experience to help steer the success of ACS and help prepare our children for the future. As a member of the ACS Board of Trustees, I will strive to assist in pushing forth policies and decisions that enable both the growth of our school and the education of our children."

MEMBERS AT LARGE

Ali Lejlic
American Embassy - Amman / U.S. Department of State

Comments: "Key goals for the Board: maintain and increase our competitive advantage for recruiting and retaining top quality teachers, keeping in mind that ACS is competing for talented teachers and administrators regionally and globally. Support the school administration in helping retain high quality faculty and staff, and in its efforts to continue to strengthen the curriculum at all levels. Encourage parents and the community to engage with the school administration. To actively assist the Board in strengthening the financial well-being of the school, particularly in considering what to do with the parcel of land to the south. Actively work with the Board as it considers new infrastructural and/or space challenges. Help keep the Board focused on strategic issues that will affect the well-being of the community for years to come."

Joseph Hanania

Comments: "Kelly (my spouse) and I have three children (Romy, Michael, Marcus) currently attending ACS. Like you we care about the school and are committed to its continued success. ACS is a good school with great potential. It has a friendly environment and a wonderful student and teacher body. The time is right to gradually transform ACS from a good to a great school. I believe that working with the team we can accomplish this objective. I have the education, experience, leadership skills and commitment to effectively support the new Superintendent, his staff, the teachers and students to make ACS a great school."

Susan Razzaz
World Bank

Comments: "I have served on the Board for the past two years: as Chair of the Personnel Committee and last year as Treasurer. I am honored to serve on the Board for a third year - to continue to do my best to make ACS a school we can all be proud of, and - along with several of my colleagues - to provide continuity on the Board as we develop a constructive relationship with the new Superintendent. "

ALTERNATES

Josephine Hinman
American Embassy - Amman / Human Resources Office

Comments: "I am interested in volunteering to shape the future of The American Community School of Amman, by serving as a board member. A board can determine the face of the faculty and the perspectives of the students. It chooses which priorities the school will be able to address in the coming year and which will have to be dealt with in the future. The board works together to steer the school into the coming years and as someone who enjoys team work and working towards a common goal. I hope to be the kind of board member that parents in the school come to rely on, and that I can help to ensure the 2009-2010 board has members who can all rely on each other to make this an even stronger community."

Tania Khreino
Blossom Mother & Child Ltd (London) / Founder

Comments: "As we are going to be in Amman indefinitely I have a vested interest in making sure that as a board member I am helping to create the best learning and social environment for my kids as well as all the other kids at ACS. ACS has been part of my husband's and his siblings' history as they all attended the school at various stages of their lives dating back to 1976 with his youngest sister graduating in 2000."
